My words for today: Aesthetic Intervention

Aesthetic Intervention: When you do anything to make a butt ugly scene more beautiful. Where I heard it? A man speaking about little gardens placed by the Pothole Gardener in potholes around London. Watch this:

What a lovely idea - random acts of beautification.

"Northern Exposure Syndrome"

What is Northern Exposure Syndrome and why is it called that? Well it is called that because Northern Exposure is the first show I really noticed it on. The funny, quirky, interesting characters and story lines became more and more depressing and less quirky and funny as the show wore on. I blame it on burned out writers who run out of quirky and start writing depressing, miserable, nasty storylines.

"Northern Exposure Syndrome" (NES) happens on lots of long running series. For example: Grey's Anatomy - which hit a high note with Izzy and Denny's love story and then moved to drowning Meredith, then shooting Derek and everyone else. Now the Chief's wife has Alzheimer's, Henry died, Christina had an abortion and her husband fooled around, and pretty much everyone is miserable - It has NES!

Another example - House - where House was at least funny and sometimes sexy (when Sela Ward was playing his ex-wife Stacy Warner)  and is now miserable, nasty, stupid, and bombastic. Wilson has cancer. We can expect misery for all cast members all around if the series doen't end first!

Do you know a series with "Northern Exposure Syndrome"?  If so post here!

Freezing here in Calgary!

It's been over a year - time to say something else?

So here I sit in Calgary and it is April and it is foggy and damp and freezing out. Whatever happened to "Its a dry cold...."
We are at the highest spot between the Rockies and the Laurentians (well actually that spot is across the road but we're pretty darn close). It doesn't look that high but you can see 40 miles away from my kitchen window. I mention this because being that high, we get more snow that downtown Calgary even though it is only a 20 minute drive away. Downtown is at least 1500 feet  lower than we are here. Maybe it really isn't fog today. Maybe we are in the middle of a cloud...
